As expected, Apple has released a series of new systems and services including iOS 8 in WWDC 2014. Homekit is the rumored smart home platform previously. Now you can upgrade your iPhone to iOS 8 to remote control device, such as smart locks, light bulbs and surveillance cameras. The operation is very simple, you just said for Siri: "I want to upload to sleep," then the lights will be dimmed and the doors will be locked.

In fact, it sounds that Homekit is a new feature of siri rather than a separate application, which is based on voice control. Masters can control home equipment by the intelligent group, such as a switch or an entire floor of the electrical fixtures. In order to ensure compatibility of the device, Apple would authenticate the smart home device. The initial partners consist of Philips (Hue smart light bulbs), August (Smart Lock smart locks) and iHome, Honeywell and a series of intelligent home equipment manufacturers.

What is the most attractive part of Homekit? Apparently, it is multi-device compatibility platform formation. As the current smart home market is confusing, many manufacturers all have their own standards, which mean you need to download their own applications, while interconnectivity between devices is scrimp. And Homekit platform that Apple launched, is began to clean up the "mess". At least in the iPhone, you no longer need to worry about this trouble.

Currently, the problem is whether the final solution will be compatible with all devices. Some of the smart home devices using a unique form of connection, not just WIFI, which means they may not be compatible of iPhone. Also, it is a problem that whether it needs a smart home center (Hub) to achieve data control and transmission. But Apple has no answer for this. Nevertheless, we also appreciate that Apple is trying to connect all the smart home devices together.

Smart Home field is likely to be another focus of Apple's future strategy. Especially in the case of Google acquired Nest, the competition between the giants in the field of intelligent home has begun. With the competition getting more intense, we look forward to the home environment in these giant effort to become more intelligent, convenient and interconnected.
