Android 5.0 Lollipop Features List

Google names its Android versions alphabetically after sweets. As a sequel to Android KitKat, Android Lollipop — technically Android version 5.0—is considered as one of the most significant updates in recent Android's history.

For starters, Android 5.0 Lollipop brings a significant design change that's as fashionable as iOS 8. In addition, there are improvements to things like notifications, battery life, security and much more. LG just announced that its LG G3 will be updated to Android 5.0 starting this coming week. Other devices include Samsung, Motorola, HTC and Sony should be along shortly after. The world is having Android fever. In this blog, all the changes in the latest Android will round up for you. Let's dig in!

Material Design

The most obvious change in Lollipop is Android's new interface look, called Material. It is inspired by nature, physics, and the bold, graphic look of print-based design and changes nearly every single thing about how Android looks, from the setup menu to animations and icons.

Notifications

Google finally adds notifications to the lock screen in its latest Android. You can decide whether you get notifications on the lock screen or not on an app by app basis and respond to them directly through your lockscreen. That way, you can just keep doing what you're doing when you don't want to answer the call. No more interruptions from notifications.

Additionally, the enhanced notifications system now shows the ones with top-priority and you will not see the unimportant ones unless you slide down.

Project Volta Battery Efficiency Optimization

Google offers plenty of battery saver features in the final Lollipop build, including a new tool to allow developers to more easily figure out how and why an app is affecting battery life. And that is Project Volta. It is already improving battery life in Android L.

Another battery new feature is Battery Saver Mode, which will automatically shut down the CPU, limits vibrations, dim the screen light when your battery drops too low.

New Recent Apps Menu

The new name of "recent apps" is Overview. It shows your recent activity in your open apps. Apart from a different style and design, the new recent app interface now is imitating the existing separate, clickable tab of Chrome. What's more, developers now are allowed to the access of API and improve the functionality of apps.

Security

Aside from all the perks for Android users listed above, it also has security benefits — new Lollipop devices finally implementing a new Android Smart Lock feature to secure your phone. No more worrying about personal messages being viewed.

Data Separation and Protection

Google announced the newest Android will bring more security to business users, allowing for data separation between business and personal life. Through this managed profile, some of the concerns with BYOD should be alleviated.

Search Improvement

Finding things are now even easier with improved Google Search. Search results will be saved across different apps and devices. You'll be able to jump right into a given app and start right where you left off.

Much More

The Android Lollipop also contains new APLs support, Bluetooth 4.1, USB audio and burst photo mode. There are still a lot more new features in the newest flavor of Android, but the core features are all still there, and as the fanboys (also fangirls) say, they're better than ever. Be careful though, if you don't konw how to recover data from your Android phone. Find someone to help you when trying to install Lollipop and good luck to you all.
