The very First Android phone was HTC G1. It was released in the US in September 2008. Then it was better known as T Mobile G1/HTC Dream. Up until now, Android has become the most used mobile OS on the planet. Everyone among us either has used an Android phone or has at least known one of their friends who are using it, but most people don't know plenty of interesting things about Android. Here we are with some of the fun facts that you may have not heard yet.
1 Android is not Google's Baby
Most people have a notion that Android is made by Google but is not true. Though Android stays to be an integral part of Google, it was actually started by a company named Android Inc. in California which was established in October 2003. Google bought it in 2005 and led to Android's tremendous success.
A really interesting fact about Android is that it has a number of updates and each major update is naming after dessert items (or, generically, sweet/sugary foods). These delicious names are chosen alphabetically. The latest version (as of this writing) – Android 5.0 Lollipop, how sweet!
3 What Android Means?
The second you hear the word "Android", you think of a mobile operating system and think that it was initially named for this system. Well it is actually originated a few hundred years ago from a phrase "humanoid robot". The world "Android" also appeared on many Movies during the 80's.
4 Android's Logo
The cute Android logo was designed in 2007 by Irina Blok who no longer works at Google. She took inspiration from the pictograms of the man and woman that usually appear on restroom doors. Most importantly, anyone can use and modify the green robot to their heart's will, just like anyone can enter and use Android Recovery Mode to customize their apps. This has added a sense of fluidity to the brand that nobody can match.
5 So Far the Most Popular Smartphone
All right, maybe not most popular, but defiantly is most used. Around 70% plus smarphone users in the world use Android phones. Windows phone and iOS have tried many tactics. But no rivals have hit this market. The interesting part is, only about 27% of Android users being female.
6 Not Just Smartphone
Although most of the Android devices are smartphones and tablets, the OS also runs on wearable devices and consumer electronics now – including smartwatches, TVs, digital cameras and others.
